price of gas

I was talking with a friend the other day and, like everyone else these days, we were complaining about the price of gas: $2.56.

AMAZING!!

Today I was wondering-- how does that compare to other things I buy pretty regularly...
price of milk: $2.99/gal
price of Dr Pepper: $8.00/gal (.75/can)
price of Chai at SB: $28.00/gal (3.50/large)

glad they don't list those things like that!

I can't believe gas is so cheap. I've always pondered how gas could be roughly the same price as a gallon of bottled water. (Gas was only around $1.00 then) I just don't know how they can build all the infrastructure it takes to explore, drill, transport, refine, transport, wholesale, transport, retail and all the labor it takes (wages, insurance, benefits, etc.) and all the costs I don't even know about. How can they make a profit at even $3.00/gallon? I paid $2.93/gallon today. Another courier in Houston predicted that by the end of this summer, gas would be $3.00/gallon. I will let you know when I pay that. What's the cheapest you've ever paid for gas? I think it was 78 cents for me, but it may have been 72 cents.

i think it won't make it to 3.00 here, but you never know. i do know it will never go below 2.00 again! it is interesting if i was really pessimistic...i would say if i was a gas company i would just see how high i could raise it to see at what point demand would actually drop.

Yeah, those guys are making a killing. The oil companies always make more money when the prices go up. It should help the economy in Houston. Maybe more people will need architects.

oh, it'll make it to 3.00, and 5.00 is predicted by the spring. still cheaper here than in europe. and kev, o&g companies get lurvely tax breaks to help them make bigger profits, which they are actually making, and i'll look into what, on average, it costs to get a gallon of gas from the ground to the gas pump and i'll let you know.
